APHIS Project

This week has been full of work at the lab. We are currently working on a project for APHIS that involves emerging bees. We are tagging newly emerged bees and watching their foraging patterns. We are injecting these bees with Deformed Wing Virus, Black Queen cell virus, a combined virus, and a control solution. This experiment will identify the affect these viruses have on the bees foraging abilities.

This week we have tagged about 1,000 bees each day. Although, yesterday the bees we spent all day tagging and injecting died. We are not sure how the experiment went wrong but we are spending tomorrow making up for the loss.
